Regular Attendance is Critical to Instruction and Learning!
Please remember that attendance at school each and every day is so important for every child. It is impossible to make up the well prepared lessons our teachers present. Monitoring of this attendance is required by California Education Code. Thank you for making every effort to always plan vacations outside of the school year.
If Your Child is Absent
- The school should be notified of an anticipated absence due to out-of-town trips, family emergencies, or any medical or dental appointments.
- Call the school (318-5120 ext. 3261) on the morning of the first day of the absence.
- Let us know if your child has a contagious disease, such as chickenpox, measles, or mumps. We will watch for the symptoms in other students.
- Send a note when your child returns to school. Include your child’s name, date(s) of absence, reason for absence, and your signature.
- A child who was absent due to a fever must be fever-free for 24 hours before returning to school.
When Students are Late to School (Tardy)
Tardies are also very disruptive to the educational environment. We expect all students to be here on time each day. Thank you for instilling this prompt value with your children. Students who are tardy miss learning time and disrupt the learning of others.
- Children must report to the office with a note indicating reason for being tardy before being admitted to the classroom.
- If your child has severe tardies, you will be contacted personally.
- Three or more tardies greater than 30 minutes constitute truancy.
Attendance Alert
Every time your child is absent, the District loses $35. The state funds that we receive for the daily attendance of students will NOT be paid for either excused or unexcused absences. If your child does need to be out of school, please consider providing the Manhattan Beach Unified School District with a voluntary contribution of $35.00 for each day your child is absent.
Picking Up Your Child During School Hours
If you need to pick up your child before the end of the school day:
- Send a note in the morning with your child stating the time that you wish to pick up your child and the reason for the early release.
- Meet your child in the school office, not the classroom. Teachers cannot release a student to a parent directly from the classroom.
- Sign the release clipboard in Health office. Your child will meet you in the office to be released.
Please make sure that all persons picking up your child during the school year are listed on your child’s Emergency Card. We will not release a student to anyone except the parent, legal guardian, or a person you have authorized in the Emergency Information entered into Infosnap.
